It saddens me to have to write this site. Because Ray Comfort is admirable and good in most of his work. He is sound Biblically in many topics, but he perverts the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ! He endorses the damnable Lordship salvation idea(popular to John MacArthur), by corrupting the word "repentance" and "Lord". I will show you directly from the Bible that he is teaching heresy! Please read through this whole site! Ray is very popular with evangelical Christians today, and this warning must be sounded loud and clear against him! His main ministry site is at livingwaters.com. John MacArthur teaches Lordship salvation as well.
All quotes directly from that site will be in PURPLE.
"And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not." Jonah 3:10
The Bible PLAINLY defines "turning from their evil way" as works! Ray Comfort defines repentance to mean "turn from your sins", which is another way of saying "turning from your evil way"! Ray says one must turn from their sins and put faith in Jesus to be saved. Ephesians 2:8-9 declares:
"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast."
To declare one is saved by faith and turning from their wicked way, is REALLY saying such person is saved by faith and works according to Jonah 3:10.
Repentance, regarding salvation is made perfectly clear in the Word of God. God has always called upon lost sinners to repent of their unbelief. Yes, John the baptist preached repentance, and the following verses explain what he was saying "repentance" means concerning a lost person:
"For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and ye, when ye had seen it, repented not afterward, that ye might believe him." Matthew 21:32
"Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus." Acts 19:4
Keep this in mind as you look through this site. Repentance concerning a lost person is repenting of their unbelief!
